These two had just gotten engaged and knew exactly where they wanted to celebrate with photos; Major’s Hill Park in Ottawa. This park isn’t just one of the city’s most beautiful spots, with sweeping views of Parliament Hill and the Ottawa River, it’s also where they first met. It was the perfect place to have a summer engagement session.
As an Ottawa engagement photographer, I love sessions that tie into a couple’s personal history. The location becomes more than just a backdrop, it’s part of the story itself.
First Half: Elegant Tradition in the Heart of Ottawa
We split their engagement session into two parts. For the first half, she wore a stunning traditional Korean hanbok in the most vibrant shade of pink, while he looked sharp in a classic navy suit. The hanbok’s delicate embroidery and flowing fabric brought so much beauty and cultural depth to the photos.
We wandered through the flower gardens and tree-lined paths, capturing elegant portraits with Parliament Hill peeking in the background. The late July light was soft and golden, wrapping them in the warm glow of a perfect summer evening.

Second Half: Casual, Playful, and Full of Laughter
As the sun dipped lower toward the horizon, they both changed into casual outfits. This part of the session felt like a relaxed evening stroll together; the kind where you can’t stop smiling at each other.
We ran across the open lawns, chased the last bits of golden light, and ended the night with candid, joy-filled images. The contrast between the formal first half and the laid-back second half gave them a beautifully balanced gallery.

Why Major’s Hill Park is Perfect for a Summer Engagement Sessions in Ottawa
Major’s Hill Park is one of my favourite Ottawa engagement photo locations because it offers so much variety. From vibrant gardens and tree-lined pathways to wide-open views of Parliament and the Ottawa River, it’s easy to create a gallery with lots of different looks, all in one place. And in summer, the golden-hour light here is pure magic.
